Literacy and Numeracy Catch up Funding

Catch Up funding 2020-2021

What is catch up funding?

The literacy and numeracy catch-up premium gives state-funded schools additional funding to support Year 7 pupils who did not achieve the expected standard in Reading or Maths at the end of Key Stage 2.

In 2019 to 2020 Holy Trinity Academy received £21,723.

Spending

The funding was spent on the following initiatives

  • NGRT tests to ensure consistent and reliable baseline reading scores
  • Small group teaching for years 7 & 8 across the curriculum
  • Additional reading lesson to improve the reading scores for all students whose reading scores fell between <65 and >85
  • High quality bespoke reading intervention focusing on AQA skills
  • Literacy planet to support student’s literacy skills during lock down
  • Education city to support student’s numeracy skills during lock down

Impact

Reading scores were assessed at the start of the academic year 20/21. Not all interventions were fully delivered due to lock down, however alternatives were used for remote delivery. Nearly 50% of students had made progress across the full academic year.

  • * The DfE has confirmed that this grant will be discontinued for September 2020 – pupils will instead be provided for under the low prior attainment factor of the national funding formula. We don’t know yet whether you’ll still be expected to publish information about how you’re supporting these pupils – we’ll update this checklist when we know more, so click ‘save for later’ on the top right of the article webpage to be notified when we do
