World of Work Day – 4th February

Life Ready Work Ready has been created to support local young people to be better prepared for the world of work by supporting engagement with local businesses through a variety of ways. With the support of Telford and Wrekin Council, the ‘Life Ready Work Ready’ programme, in conjunction with Aspire to Higher Education and the Careers and Enterprise Company, came to Holy Trinity Academy on Monday 4th February for our Year 9 students. The students were in groups and spent time with business volunteers on a rota basis. This enabled students over a two hour period to speak to and engage with a range of employers and employees from a variety of sectors. The event was inspirational for our students. They learnt about a wider range of routes available to them through Higher Education, University or Higher level Apprenticeships in a more intimate focused setting. The business volunteers were able to tackle head-on the fear that pupils have about university being too expensive or that they may have to live away from home. The students left the session with a greater understanding of the options available to them. “I learnt about higher education. The information on apprenticeships was really useful. It was interesting to find out that you could get paid to study.” – Y9 student
