The ‘World of Work’ is not a world away

Telford and Wrekin’s “Life Ready, Work Ready” team had the pleasure of delivering the Aspire to Higher Education’s World of Work Day to Year 9 students. They explored the range of higher education options available to them such as Higher Degree Apprenticeships and the traditional University route. They looked at how the local labour market information can be best utilised to work for them when making future career decisions. Local employers, employees and apprentices were on hand to discuss their personal education and career journeys. They provided students with invaluable first-hand testimonials of the world of work and a wide range of pathways and job roles within the Telford and Wrekin area. Here’s what some of our students said about the workshop: “I learnt that as long as you get good GCSE’s you can try whatever you like and don’t have to have specific ones to follow your dream”. “I may consider an apprenticeship; I thought it was very useful”. “It helped my understanding about different ways you can get a job and also how you can get to afford higher education”. “I found out there are other options apart from Uni”, and finally “I found the volunteers sweet and they had an incredible work ethic”.
