Symphonic Storytelling

Music students at the Secondary Schools’ Concert were blown away by an amazing programme performed by the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra (CBSO) at the Birmingham Symphony Hall yesterday. In this marvellous acoustic venue, our students watched and listened to over 80 world class musicians perform a programme devised specially for KS3 which expressed “joy, terror, deep calm and edge-of-the-seat thrills” as they played music composed by Berlioz, Tchaikovsky, Prokofiev and many more.

Here is what some of our students had to say: “Going to watch the CBSP orchestra was amazing! The experience was the best and I enjoyed every second of it. I felt inspired by the string section as they used multiple techniques in such a short amount of time”. “At the CBSO’s 100th anniversary I loved all of the pieces but my favourite was the Avengers theme …… the rumble of the timpani drum accompanied by the roaring of the violins made you feel powerful and inspired”. “It was the first time I had been to Symphony Hall and the first time I had listened to a live orchestra”.
