Holy Trinity Academy welcomed Elevate Education back into school on Monday 13th January 2020 where they delivered a stimulating seminar to all students in year 11 on ‘Acing Exams’. ‘Ace Your Exams’ addresses tangible exam based skills that students can use to direct all of the hard work that they’ve put in throughout the year into results during exam time. During the seminar pupils touched on three main topics: (i) Building on past performance: How to break down past mock exams and work out areas of weakness. (ii) Exam preparation: Pupils leave the seminar knowing what type of work they need to do and when they need to do it across their revision period. (iii) Exam room technique: Techniques for managing stress, how to create succinct answers to questions and advice on the allocation of time to questions based on marks indicated. Students were engaged with three speakers Sarah Hartley, George Hodson and Joe Blomefield whose confidence and enthusiasm captured the students’ attention and we look forward to seeing some of the techniques learnt in action. Students reacted really well to this event. All students asked said they would recommend the seminar to their peers. 78 out of 81 students said their time had been well spent, saying, “…this was an eye opener, it gave me motivation”, “..it gave me some useful tips”, “…. very good advice given” and finally “..it was very informative and it encouraged me to push myself to do my best”. Later that day, we welcomed parents to a similar seminar to discuss the skills covered in the student workshops and to give them tips on how best to support the students at home ahead of these all-important exams.
