Learning to ‘Speak and Be Heard’

Yesterday we were privileged to have the Speakers Trust deliver a workshop to some of our Year 10 students.  The Speakers Trust, a public speaking training organisation, works closely with schools to deliver communication training to young people, enhance their speaking skills thereby giving them confidence to ‘speak and be heard’. Students were able to speak about a wide range of topics from archery to equality! The workshop also encouraged the students to listen to the views of their peers. The result of the workshop was that the students were more confident and had improved listening and feedback skills. Our students were asked to give their feedback after having attended the workshop.  The response from students was outstanding. Here are just a few of their comments: Paige wrote “I feel so much more confident about standing in front of people and talking. Thank you”.  Charlotte wrote “The workshop made me feel much more confident with speaking in front of a crowd”. Fay wrote “If you fail once, then try again”. Claudette Dawson from the Speakers Trust was full of praise for the special nature of our school, saying “I really do believe something very special happens at Holy Trinity Academy.  Everyone made me feel so welcome and part of the great team that is the staff members I encountered.  Things may seem little, however they make a huge difference in the environment of a school.  A small hello, an acknowledgment, a check-in to see if I had all I needed was just the start of the great experience I had with you all.”
